Chapter Retreat Fall 2010

The time has come once again for our semester retreat. We hold a retreat every semester to introduce new members to the documents that M.E.Ch.A was founded on, El Plan de Santa Barabra and El Plan Espiritual de Aztlan, and for each of us to bond as a group. Both of these documents can also be found here on the blog under MEChA Documents in the directory if you would like to take a look beforehand. This semester the retreat will be held at the Lake Morena Campground Oct 8-10. That is this upcoming weekend. We are asking that each person going (which should be everybody) contribute around $15 so we can buy food, reserve the camp sites and provide gas money to those who will be driving. We will be taking up a collection on Tuesday so we have enough time to buy food. Also if anybody is vegetarian PLEASE LET US KNOW that way we can accomadate you food wise.

We Now Have A Room! B-104

After many conflicts with the AS office, we have finally aquired a room for our weekly chapter meetings. We will no longer be having our meetings in the cafeteria. We will now meet in B-104. This will be our official room for the semester. The day and time, Tuesday at 2:30pm will remain the same. For those of you who may not know where the B building is, the B building is across from the Gorton Quad on Park Blvd in front of the San Diego City College Sign. Please refer to the campus map here on the side as a guide. You can click on the picture to enlarge it. Looking forward to seeing you all there.

Come remember the 42nd anniversary of the massacre in Tlatelolco, Mexico City

Come join us in the Gorton Quad in front of the cafeteria October 5th at 11:30 A.M to learn more and celebrate the 42nd anniversary of the massacre of innocent students and bystandards by the Mexican government on October 2,1968 in Tlatelolco, Mexico City. The Tlatelolco Massacre was a government massacre of student and civilian protesters and bystanders that took place during the afternoon and night of October 2, 1968, in the Plaza de las Tres Culturas in the Tlatelolco section of Mexico City. The protesters wanted social and education reform, and were angered that the Mexican government had spent aprox. $150 million in preperations for the 1968 Olympics that were to be hosted in Mexico City. While today many accounts of the events are scattered there are between 100 to 1000 deaths reported by eye-wittnesses. So come out October 5th and help us remember those brave students, protesters and innocent bystandards who lost their lives.

M.E.Ch.A Chapter Meeting Fall 2010

Our first chapter meeting will be Tuesday Spetember 7 at 2:30 pm in the cafeteria. This will not be our permanent meeting place. The earilest we can expect to get a room is probably around the 1st week of October because of a Club Orientation that all the clubs are required to attend before they are able to request a room, so until then, our weekly chapter meeting will most likley be in the cafeteria. This meeting is open to anyone who is intrested so go ahead and bring your friends. Although we are faced with this obsticle of meeting without a room, we will not let it get in the way of our goals. Together we can make a difference and this video is a good example of what could be.

Caravan to Phoenix, AZ

Meeting at Chicano Park on May 28th at 5:00PM. Departing at 5:30PM and returning from Arizona on May 30th at 9AM back to San Diego.

Help support our gente in Arizona. Don't let this happen here or anywhere else.

How can you get invloved?
  • Invite your friends via Facebook, Myspace, Email or word of mouth.
  • Print out the "Alto Arizona" or save it to your computer and repost on other networking sites or hand them out to people.
  • Register with your local campus or community human rights orginization then RSVP to this event here. You can also find more information about the protest through this link.
On the day of the event, the San Diego contingent will have its own security and will be marching behind the May 1st Coalition banner (the people organizing the Caravan) . The Coalition is asking that everyone marching with us wear a red shirt during the march so that we will have an idea of who is with the San Diego contingent. The next May 1st Coalition meeting is this coming Tuesday at City College in Room B103 (building in front of McD's) from 6-8 pm.

This is a nation wide event. NDLON (National Day Laborers Orginaizing Network) and Puente (a human rights movement anchored in Phoenix) is calling all people of conscience across the country to converge on Arizona on May 29. Together we will march to Stop the Hate and demand that Obama issue an executive order nullifying SB1070.
Let us show the world that we won't stand  for hateful laws and attacks on immigrants and people of color.
